In this guide, we will walk you through how to add Google Search Console to Divi website.
The process is simple: go to Google Search Console, add your website’s URL, verify your site ownership and add your sitemap. It’s that simple!
For your convenience, we will cover each step in detail so that even a complete beginner can set up GSC quickly and easily.
Disclaimer: Before adding GSC to your Divi site, ensure your site is visible to search engines. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading and uncheck Search engine visibility. |
What is Google Search Console?
Google Search Console (GSC) is one of the most powerful and free tools that lets you monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot your site’s Google search results. It provides insights into how Google sees your site.
With GSC, you will get performance metrics, crawling and indexing reports, search queries, security issues, and more. In short, you will have everything in a single place to make your website more search engine-friendly.
However, we will show you how to add GSC by adding this to one of our demo Divi websites. In the steps below, we will guide you through the entire process:
Add Google Search Console to Divi Website in 3 Steps
Here is how you can add your Divi website to Google Search Console to monitor your website’s search engine visibility, identify issues, and more:
Step 1: Go to Google Search Console and Add Your Website
Start with navigating to the official website of Google Search Console and click on “Start Now.” Then log in with your google account that is associated with your Divi website.
Next, you will be asked to add your website URL and verify that you own it. You can choose from two property types to verify your domain ownership:
- Domain: This option offers performance insights for the entire website, including all subdomains and both HTTP and HTTPS versions. You will receive how your site performs across all variations, including www.example.com, non-www versions, and both HTTP and HTTPS protocols
- URL Prefix: With this, you can track a specific URL like https://www.example.com and its subpages (e.g., /blog/ or /products/). That means you won’t get data for any other subdomains or variations of the URL like http:// (non-https version.)
As you can see, the URL Prefix property type only lets you track a specific URL and its subpages. Conversely, Domain enables you to track everything, including all subdomains and protocols (HTTP and HTTPS).
Therefore, we recommend you to go for the “Domain” option.
Step 2: Verify Your Divi Website Ownership
Both domain and URL prefix work differently and have a separate domain authentication method. We are going to use our demo website’s domain name to show both verification methods.
Method 1: Domain Verification (Recommended Method)
You have to verify your website’s domain ownership through your domain registrar when you choose “Domain” as a property type. This process may seem a little tricky, but we will show you each step so you can do it easily.
- First, enter your domain name, such as www.example.com, and click “Continue.” Here we have used our domain website’s name, www.divipage.com.
- Copy the TXT record value provided by Google Search Console and click on “VERIFY LATER.”
- Next, log in to your domain registrar’s account. Then look for the DNS management section, often labeled “DNS Records” or “Advanced DNS.” Our domain is registered with Hostinger, and it came with “DNS Records” for adding TXT records.
- Now, add your copied TXT record in your domain’s DNS management section. To do this, you will need to configure the following settings:
- Select “TXT” as the record type.
- In the “Host/Name” field, enter @ (or leave it blank depending on your registrar’s requirements).
- In the ” TXT Value” field, paste the TXT record you copied at the beginning.
- Leave the TTL (Time to Live) to the default value and click on “Add Record or Save.”
Once you added your copied TXT record, wait for a couple of hours for the DNS changes to propagate. This can take up to 24 hours, but it often happens sooner.
After a few hours, revisit the GSC, enter your domain URL, and click “Verify.” If your website hasn’t been verified yet, wait a bit longer. Once your Divi site is verified, you should see a message similar to this:
Note: Different domain providers may have varying DNS settings. Therefore, contact your domain registrar or check their documentation for specific instructions on adding a TXT record.
Method 2: URL Prefix Verification
As we said earlier, when you select the URL prefix, you will have access to performance insights for a specific URL (https://www.example.com) and its subpages (e.g., https://www.example.com/blog/).
To show you the domain owner verification method with URL prefix, we will add our demo site’s URL, which is https://divipage.com/.
However, while including your site URL to the specified field, make sure to enter your complete URL. This means you must include the protocol (https:// or http://) and the full path, such as https://divipage.com/. Otherwise, the verification may fail.
Here is the step-by-step process:
- Write down your site’s URL into the URL Prefix field and click “Continue.”
- Now a new window will appear with 5 different domain verification options:
- HTML File: Download and upload a HTML file to your website’s root directory.
- HTML Tag: Add a provided meta tag to your site’s <head> section.
- Google Analytics: Verify if you have Google Analytics set up.
- Google Tag Manager: Verify using your existing Tag Manager setup.
- Domain Name Provider: Add a TXT record to your DNS settings.
Among all of them, using “HTML Tag” offers the most effortless way to verify a domain authorization. That’s why we will use this approach:
- Click on the “HTML Tag” option and copy the meta tag.
- Next, login to your Divi website and then navigate to the Divi > Theme Option > Integration.
- Then paste your copied URL to the “Add code to the <head > of your blog” and click on “Save Changes.”
- Now return to the google search console page and click “Verify.” And you should see something like this:
Once you are done with verifying your domain’s ownership, click on “Go To Property” to access your Google Search Console dashboard.
Initially, you won’t see anything as once you set up GSC, it takes some time for Google to start crawling and indexing your site. However, for that, you have to create and submit a sitemap of your Divi site on Google Search Console.
Note: Similar to adding https://divipage.com/, you can use the same instructions to add other versions of your website to Google Search Console. These versions could include:
Step 3: Submit Your Sitemap to Google Search Console
After verifying your website’s domain ownership, it’s time to submit your sitemap to Google Search Console. This helps Google understand your site’s structure and crawl its content more efficiently.
However, before that, you have to create a sitemap of your website. You can either use a SEO plugin or go for a manual sitemap creation method. We are going for a plugin named RankMath as it provides an easy sitemap creation process.
To show you the process, we have created two separate parts of creating as well as submitting a sitemap. Have a look:
Creating a Sitemap Using Rank Math:
- Navigate to Plugins > Add New, search for “Rank Math,” then install and activate it.
- Follow the setup wizard to configure SEO settings.
- Go to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math SEO > Sitemap Settings.
- Adjust the sitemap settings and save changes.
- Copy the sitemap URL (e.g., https://yourdomain.com/sitemap_index.xml).
Submit the Sitemap to Google Search Console:
- Copy the sitemap and then go to GSC and click on “Sitemaps” from the left side.
- Simply paste your copied sitemap and click on “Submit” and you are done.
You have successfully added your Divi website’s sitemap to the Google Search Console, you will see this massage:
Once you see the success message, wait for Google to crawl your sitemap and start indexing the pages listed within it. This will typically take a few hours to a few days.

Closing Thoughts
As you can see, we successfully added our Divi site to the GSC within just three simple steps. We believe, if you solely follow these steps, you can also do the same for your Divi site too.
For your convenience, we have included two different site ownership verification methods. As a result, you can choose one that works best for your situation.
However, we recommend you go for the “Domain” property type to verify your ownership. But if you want to track a specific URL and its subpages, then go for the “URL Prefix” property type.
